Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are the most energetic events in our cosmos, yet they remain largely unknown to those outside the field of astronomy. What mechanisms drive these powerful explosions? From the deaths of massive stars to the awe-inspiring flashes that light up the entire electromagnetic spectrum, second only in scale to the Big Bang , GRBs represent some of the most extreme events in the universe, pushing our understanding of physics to its limits. In this talk, we’ll explore their origins, briefly cover their history, how we detect them, and why they are among the more fascinating tools for probing the farthest reaches of the universe.
